Darn Good Yarn – Creative Queso Podcast Episode #6
Nicole Snow is not your typical crafty business owner. Where some people are happy to make a little extra spending money with their side hustle her company Darn Good Yarn brought in over 7million dollars last year. Besides being named one of Inc Magazine’s top 5,000 fastest growing companies for the 2nd year in a row Nicole and her Darn Good Yarn also have an amazing mission statement to start at love. In this episode of the Creative Queso podcast listen as Nicole and I chat about business, sustainability, creating jobs and opportunities for underserved communities and doing right by the world one ball of yarn at a time.
Darn Good Yarn started with a ball of recycled silk scarf yarn from India and from there her company and their mission of sustainability, creating jobs and opportunities for underserved communities and doing right by the world was born.
Nicole is not just doing good in countries like India and Nepal. Here at home when Nicole is not taking time from her busy schedule as a mother and entrepreneur to talk with people like me she is running out the door to mentor other women who run their own small businesses. Nicole says: ” I am really in love with getting women (in particular) fired up about starting businesses that are out to make a change in the world while still making money for themselves/family”.
I’m not often at a loss for words but Nicole Snow is so well versed about business and the ethics behind it I almost felt star struck and tongue tied during this interview. Darn Good Yarn can now count me as a fan girl! Plus what better way to keep your hands busy while you listen to this episode of Creative Queso than to knit or crochet with a ball of colorful yarn.
Are You On Team Knit or Crochet?
The conversation is full of thoughts on business including using Shopify, hiring employees, adding a subscription box to Darn Good Yarn’s product line and what it’s like working with your husband. However we also get into the deep yarn questions like whether Nicole is on team knit or crochet.
Wait – what’s that you say. You don’t knit or crochet? Might I suggest a few of my favorite needle and hook free projects that still keeps you playing with yarn…
Can Darn Good Yarn save the world or at least help show other small businesses how to make millions and help the world? One thing is sure, Nicole Snow is starting at love and setting an amazing example for others to follow.
The key to the company’s success might be karma (did I mention they have a karma points system on their site). Nicole Snow is putting positivity and integrity out into the world with her head for business and heart for doing the right thing.
